Foldeez turns one photo of a pet or a person into a paper figure kit that we print and mail to you, and you cut, fold and glue it. To do that we handle your photo, your order details and your shipping address. This page says what we keep, for how long, and who else sees it.

What we collect

  • The photo you upload, the figure you pick (Animal or Person), and the kit size and print you choose.
  • Your email address, which you give at checkout, so we can email you about your order. We use it only for that and do not store it ourselves; Stripe keeps it with your payment, and the email service that sends our order emails keeps a record of the send.
  • The shipping address you give at checkout, so we can mail your kit.
  • If you join the app waitlist, the email address you enter there.
  • Your payment, which our payment provider, Stripe, handles. We never see your full card number.
  • A random id our server gives your browser (in a cookie) or the iPhone app (kept on your phone), so the figures you try and an unpaid order stay yours between visits.
  • A scrambled (hashed) form of your network address, made with a secret key we replace every day and kept no longer than a day, to limit how much one network can use the site each day.

Your photo

We delete our copy of your photo no later than 24 hours after you upload it. To paint your figure we send the photo to Google, through its Gemini service. Google may keep the photo and the result for up to 55 days to check for misuse, and, under its terms, it does not use paid account data to train its models. Our requests ask Google not to store a separate copy.

Your finished files

We keep the painted artwork and the print file for your kit until 45 days after it ships, so we can reprint a kit lost in the mail, then we delete them. Artwork for a figure you do not order is deleted 30 days after we make it.

Your shipping address

Stripe collects your shipping address at checkout and holds it with your payment. We keep our own copy only to mail your kit, and delete it 30 days after it ships.

If your order is refunded or cancelled before it ships, we count the same 30 days for your address and 45 days for your print file from the day of the refund or cancellation.

How long we keep your records

We keep the record of your visits (the random id above and how many figures you tried) until 30 days after you last upload, start paying or pay, and the record of an order you do not pay for (the figure, background and kit you picked) until 30 days after you made it or last started paying for it. Then we delete them within a day.

We keep the record of a paid order (what you ordered, and when it was paid and shipped, without your address) for seven years, for our tax records.

Stripe and the email service that sends our order emails keep their own records of your payment and your emails under their own policies.

The app waitlist

If you join the app waitlist, we keep your email address only to email you once when the iPhone app is ready. We send nothing else to it, and we delete your address once that email goes out, or 12 months after you join if the app is not ready by then. To be removed, use the form on the waitlist page or email hello@foldeez.com.

Photos of people

To order a Person figure you must be 18 or older, and the photo must be of you, of someone who gave you permission, or of a child you are the parent or guardian of. You confirm this with a checkbox before we make your figure.

We never use your photo or your figure in our marketing unless you say yes in a separate box. That box starts unchecked.

Who else sees your information

  • Google, through its Gemini service, to make the artwork for your figure, as described above.
  • Stripe, to take payment and to collect and hold your shipping address.
  • The email service that sends our order emails, which gets your email address and those emails.
  • The email service we use for the one app email, if you join the waitlist, which gets your email address and that email.
  • The postal service that delivers your kit, which sees the name and address on the envelope.
  • Etsy, for orders placed on Etsy. Etsy also keeps order files under its own policy.

Google and the email services may use your information only to do this work for us, and must protect it at least as well as this page describes. Stripe also uses your payment details under its own privacy policy, for example to prevent fraud.

We do not sell your information or share it for advertising.

Your choices

You can ask us what we hold about you, or ask us to delete it sooner than the times above. Email us and we will reply within 30 days.
